|a Colonel Henderson was a British army officer, the first one to undertake a serious study of the Civil War after 1870. Best known for his Stonewall Jackson and the American Civil War, a classic military biography, Henderson's other writings, however, are comparatively unknown. In this volume Jay Luvaas has collected and introduced some of the most important of these: the text and original maps of The campaign of Fredericksburg (1886), which brought Henderson to the attention of the British Army's adjutant general, Sir Garnett Wolseley; four chapters from the posthumous collection of essays and lectures, The Science of War (1905).
