520 |a "Hanna was a ten-year-old Jewish girl in czarist Russia at the turn of the [20th] century. She lived in an area where most Jews were confined, the Pale of Settlement. Even though she grew up within a loving family, she realized that life was becoming more and more difficult for Jews all the time. Many Russian Jews began to emigrate to other countries. The port of Galveston, Texas was opened for immigration from 1907 to 1914. At the age of seventeen, Hanna became bart of the Galveston Movement, coming to America where she could start a new life and be free."--From back cover.
