|a The dissertation consists largely of a KWIC-style concordance to Sartor Resartus. The base text is that of the Centenary Edition. Page and line citations refer to the Centenary Edition; volume and book citations are also included so that the concordance may be used with other editions. Although thirty-nine words of high frequency and minimal stylistic or thematic significance are indexed only (i.e., without lines of context being supplied), not a word of Sartor Resartus is omitted entirely. A distinctive feature of this concordance is that plurals of nouns as w ell as possessives have been grouped under the base form. Homographs are distinguished on the basis of traditional Latin-based grammar. An introductory chapter provides information not only on the process of constructing this concordance but also on the processes of computer-assisted generation of concordances in general. Appendixes offer statistics and two word frequency lists, one in alphabetical order and the other in numerical order of occurrence.
