|b Author, historian, collector and dealer of African Americana, Middleton Alexander "Spike" Harris (1908-1977) founded, in 1964, the Negro History Associates, which was established to collect and disseminate information about African Americans. The manuscript documents included here range from deeds relating to the purchase of slaves at the beginning of the 18th century to the enlistment and discharge of African American troops during the American Civil War. Also included is a letter from Granville Sharp, Chairman of the Committee for the Abolition of the Slave Trade, to Hercules Ross of Montrose, dated 1. Sept. 1791.
