Summary: | Leslie S. Greenberg works with a female client in her late 50s who is dealing with major depression and contemplating a divorce. The client is prone to somatization and struggles with various chronic pain issues. She has a history of emotional abuse and trauma with men that has created maladaptive patterns of emotional suppression and withdrawal. Greenberg fosters a safe and empathic environment for emotional exploration and uses role playing and the two-chair technique to help her further process her emotions and increase her awareness of others' perspectives. In this second session, Greenberg and the client continue to explore her maladaptive relationships with men while working to empower her. For homework, he instructs the client to record in her journal the ways she makes herself feel guilty and unentitled.
