|a "Human life consists of drives, and among these forces sex is the greatest. Hunger is the other great drive and the primary object of this urge is to insure man's continuation as an individual. It is hunger which enables man to renew his tissues at regular intervals so that he may continue on this earth as an individual. Sex is the great human drive which enables man to continue on earth as a species. The biological object of the sexual emotion is to provide man with earthly immortality. Sexual feeling is deeply ingrained in all living human beings. It is not an emotion to be shunned, to be suppressed and left in the dark. A physician is constantly in touch with a great variety of sexual problems, and it is these that I have attempted to answer and solve in the present book. As with other biological sciences many important advances have been made in sexology within the past few years. Among these may be mentioned the estrogen treatment of impotence in the male and frigidity in the female, the correction of infantilism in both sexes by means of sex hormones, the psychological aspects of sex and the increasing importance of sexuality in everyday life. These have been discussed in the present book"--Preface. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved).
