A ms letter in ink from Sam Houston, U.S. Senator from Texas, introducing an up-and-coming Congressman from New York his friend Caleb Lyon to Ingersoll, U.S. Minister to the United Kingdom, appointed by President Fillmore the previous year. Lyon designed the State Coat of Arms of California.
